Grouping by question with geospatial data

This article is for Citizen Space Geospatial. Please speak to your customer success manager if you are interested in learning more about it.

When grouping responses that contain geospatial data you will see the following additional options under 'Display Options':

  • Choosing 'Show a separate map for each group' will display each group of responses on its own map, with a list of responses in that group below each map. This is most useful when exploring the relationships between individual responses within each group.
  • Choosing 'Combine groups on a single map' will display a single map, with each group of responses given a unique colour to distinguish them. This is most useful when exploring the relationships between groups of responses. Below the map, separate lists of responses for each group are also shown.

Please note: The 'Combine groups on a single map' option is only available when grouping by answer components where the respondent could only select one answer (such as radio buttons or a dropdown list). This is to ensure that each response only appears once on the combined map.

For example

In the following example, respondents were asked to identify land or sites that were available to be developed for a variety of purposes. From the 'Responses Organised by Question' page we have chosen a mapping page question titled: 'Please mark your site boundary on the map.' We have then chosen to group the responses by the quantitative question: 'Proposed Usage.'

Leaving the default option of 'Show a separate map for each group' selected, we are shown each group of responses separately on their own map, with a listing below. Responses are shown in dark blue to differentiate them from any coloured base layers

Choosing the option to 'Combine groups on a single map' results in all responses appearing on the same map, colour-coded by their grouping. The map key shows the colour of each group and allows each group to be hidden or shown as required. Underneath the combined map, each group of responses also appears as a listing.

Please note that in order to reduce visual clutter, any base layers you may have configured are not shown on the 'combined' map view.
