Citizen Space Single Sign-on (SSO) - Linking Accounts

This article is for the Citizen Space Admin SSO feature. Please contact your Customer Success Manager if you are interested in using Single Sign-on and Citizen Space.

When using Log In with Single Sign-on, your Citizen Space account and external SSO account work together to protect your information and provide you with access to the Citizen Space platform. Before you can use this feature, your accounts must be linked together.

This article will walk you through enabling Log In with Single Sign-on by linking your Citizen Space user account with your external SSO account.

Prerequisites

  • An SSO Identity Provider (IdP) must be correctly configured by a Site Admin
  • A Site Admin must create you a Citizen Space user account

For existing users with a Citizen Space email and password

If you already know your Citizen Space email and password and have logged in without SSO previously, you can activate SSO on your account as follows:

  1. Log in to Citizen Space with your existing email and password.
  2. Head to your profile screen using the link under your name in the top right of Citizen Space.
  3. Click the Activate SSO link on the right of your user profile.
  4. On the confirmation screen, choose Link Account.
  5. You will be prompted to authenticate through your SSO Identity Provider (IdP). This may involve entering your SSO username and password or completing multi-factor authentication (MFA) as required by your IdP.
  6. After a successful authentication with the SSO Identity Provider, you will be redirected back to Citizen Space with a message confirming that your accounts have been linked. You will retain any department, position or activity ownership that you had before activating SSO.

Please note: once you have linked your accounts together, you will no longer be able to use the email and password previously set up in Citizen Space.

For new users

If you have never logged in to Citizen Space before, you should have received an 'Account setup' email from your Site Admin. This email will contain a unique SSO setup link. Open this link in your web browser and then proceed as follows:

  1. From the SSO setup link, choose Link Account.
  2. You will be prompted to authenticate through your SSO Identity Provider (IdP). This may involve entering your SSO username and password or completing multi-factor authentication (MFA) as required by your IdP.
  3. After a successful authentication with the SSO Identity provider, you will be redirected back to Citizen Space and logged in with a message confirming that your accounts have been linked.

Logging in with SSO

After you have linked your accounts, you can access Citizen Space using the Log In with Single Sign-on button on the login page. You will be prompted to authenticate through your SSO Identity Provider. Make sure you use the same SSO credentials as the ones used when linking your accounts.
