Release notes: Citizen Space v8.9

Citizen Space version 8.9 was released the week beginning 26 January 2026.

This update includes expanded API options, bug squashes, and a change to the almost done page.

Webhooks for Workspaces

We've expanded our authenticated API options to make webhooks available at the Workspaces level. This means more and easier options for integrations.

Previously, Citizen Space automatically sent response receipt emails to respondents whenever they provided an email address, either by answering an email question in your activity or entering their email at the end.

From now on, response receipt emails will only be sent when respondents explicitly request them by ticking a checkbox on the 'Almost done' page.

This means respondents have clear control over whether they receive a copy of their response by email, reducing unwanted emails and improving the experience for everyone.

What you'll see

On the 'Almost done' (confirm submit) page, respondents will now see:

  • A clear checkbox asking: 'Please tick this box if you would like to receive a copy of your response by email'
  • The email address field will only appear when they tick the checkbox (if you don't already have their email from an earlier question)
  • A note letting them know they can still download a PDF copy of their response on the next page, even if they don't want an email.

This change will automatically apply to all your activities. If you have mailing lists enabled, the mailing list opt-in checkbox will continue to work as before.

Why we've made this change

We received feedback that some respondents were receiving response receipt emails they hadn't requested, which was affecting email deliverability for everyone. Now with this change, respondents only receive emails they explicitly want, your email reputation remains strong and you remain compliant with best practices for email communications.
